The South Deerfield Water Supply District is currently working to inventory the pipe material for all water service lines connected to the public water system.
This is a required survey of service lines owned by property owners that connect to the water infrastructure owned by the South Deerfield Water Supply District.
This project, which is being completed with the help of the engineering firm Tighe & Bond (Westfield, MA) includes a brief survey completed by the property owner along with a photo of the service line the connects your interior plumbing to the water main at the street underground.
This project will include a full inventory of water service lines of all homes and business serviced by the South Deerfield Water Supply District. This project will also include updating all service record cards.
**There are (2) options to complete this process**
OPTION #1: (Self-Survey)
Property owners can complete this brief Survey, including uploading a photo of your service line by using the link below.

OPTION #2: (Schedule a Free Inspection) Property owners can contact Tighe & Bond using the link below to schedule a FREE inspection, or call: 413-350-1333.
The South Deerfield Water District has received a $213,000 grant from the state Clean Water Trust to fund this project.
This project should be completed by fall of 2024.
Since 1989 the Clean Water Trust has loaned nearly $8.25 billon to improve and maintain water quality in Massachusetts. It's estimated that 97% of residents have benefited.
In 2021, the US EPA published revisions to the Lead and Copper Rule that are intended to better protect children and communities from lead exposure risks and support efforts to remove lead from drinking water. The revisions require all Public Water Systems to complete an inventory of all service lines connected to their distribution system and develop a Lead Service Line Replacement Plan. The inventory must include the pipe material and other information for both the portions of the service line within the public way and private property. The Inventory and Replacement Plan must be submitted by October 16, 2024.
While this service line inventory project is a project that includes an inventory of service lines that are owned by (and the responsibility of) private property owners - these service lines and the interior plumbing of your property connected directly to our public drinking water supply infrastructure. In working toward a lead-free water distribution system for our customers the South Deerfield Water Supply District applied for, and received grant funding to cover the cost of this project in the amount of $213,000 from the Massachusetts Clean Water Trust.
The Trust, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), helps communities build or replace water infrastructure that enhances ground and surface water resources, ensures the safety of drinking water, protects public health and develops resilient communities. It accomplishes these objectives by providing low-interest loans and grants to cities, towns and water utilities through the Massachusetts State Revolving Funds (SRFs). SRFs function like an environmental infrastructure bank by financing water infrastructure projects.
The Trust administers two SRF programs, the Clean Water and Drinking Water SRFs. MassDEP manages project development and oversight while the Trust manages the flow of funds to borrowers. The SRF programs are partnerships between the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Commonwealth. To date, the Trust has financed approximately $8.25 billion for nearly three hundred borrowers, serving 97% of the Commonwealth’s population.
